Comment on James McAvoy Pitched 'Star Trek' Series About "Young Picard"
ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 23 hours ago That’s an awfully strong reaction to a rejected pitch…

ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 23 hours ago You seem to be taking the fact that they rejected a pitch for a show that you think is a bad idea as evidence that they don’t hire what they’re dung, which is…truly dizzying.
RonnyZittledong@lemmy.world 23 hours ago I was applying my opinion to the proposed idea and comparing it to other recent attempts. I am not sure what else you expect from comments on this article.
ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 22 hours ago Where’s the comparison?
mycodesucks@lemmy.world 21 hours ago And yet, it’s accurate.
How many more times do we have to have fans tell Paramount they don’t know what they’re doing, have them tell us they do, plow ahead anyway with bad ideas that we could see 100 miles away, have it completely fail, and then cancel it and try it AGAIN?
We are at least 3 series past the point where giving them the benefit of the doubt is madness.

But it’s true. Fan service can bring you only so far. Lower Decks has tons of fan service but it’s almost never the main purpose of the story.
I don’t think I can agree with that - plenty of Lower Decks episodes seemed reverse-engineered around whatever legacy actors they were able to book, and other legacy actors were just sort of…stuffed in there.
I would agree that they always crafted meaningful stories around that stuff, but that stuff is still pretty foundational - moreso than perhaps any show besides the third season of Picard, which I would enthusiastically hold up as an example of “fan service” (I don’t love the term, but whatever, it fits) done very poorly.
