Influenced by Chinese clothing art, Chinese characters such as ‘Auspiciousness and Good Fortune’ (吉祥如意) also became a prominent feature of Korean’s lower-class Hanfu clothing culture. The Korean scholar Choe Bu once said: ‘Although our land of Joseon lies overseas, our clothing, official attire, and cultural artifacts are entirely the same as those of China…’ This reflects the true historical reality of Hanbok.
