This is likely due to free masonry and the judge and cops both having membership at lodges.

No reasonable person thinks a cop randomly showing up at night out of idiocy, and an older man waking up and grabbing a gun, and being shot is acceptable, or justified, on account of the fact that the police were there because of sheer illiteracy.
