Yeah I have the same issue, both in body texts and in usernames. I’m not 100% sure if this is just a Mastodon limitation or not, though (I primarily use a Sharkey instance).

Pretty sure it’s an instance issue. The same exact account in the picture attached shows up fine with custom emojis on mastodon.sdf.org and social.sdfeu.org.
I’ve sent membership@sdf.org an email; however, I’ve emailed them a couple times before regarding other things and have never received responses back…
