Comment on Voyager crew incompetence. Has Trek always been like this?

Not saying its not lazy or convenient writing, but let’s equate it to serving on a marine vessel.
History is full of story’s of long term voyages going badly due to mistakes and oversights. Just look at more recent examples with the well documented problems when a US crew serves on a ship away from port for just under a year.

New Star Trek does seem to cater to military fetishists.

I agree in part. It’s not the militarism so much, as the focus on action for action’s sake I think.
Conflict in pre Kelvin Star Trek was always a “clash of the minds” affair. Much of that has been traded for cheaper “magic widget” or “character sacrifice” tropes. It’s not that those are inherently bad, its just that they are overused in media
