To my understanding, this article is quite misleading. The report that came out yesterday is specifically related to

Traumatic injury mortality in the Gaza Strip - from Oct 2023 to June 2024.

It doesn’t talk about the deaths that do not come from direct violence (famine, thirst, cold, burried in the rubble, disease etc.)

The total death count from the Lancet report of June 2023, was estimated to be much higher.

By June 19, 2024, 37 396 people had been killed in the Gaza Strip

Applying a conservative estimate of four indirect deaths per one direct death9 to the 37 396 deaths reported, it is not implausible to estimate that up to 186 000 or even more deaths could be attributable to the current conflict in Gaza
