The word football is officially defined as “any of various forms of team game involving kicking (and in some cases also handling) a ball”.

More specifically, there are six games that are commonly known as Football… and in Australia, three of those games are extremely popular.

So, while there are countries where there’s only one popular “football”, Australia isn’t one of those countries. Over here you really should avoid the term in my opinion.
