Tbh it was more “that guy is definitely gonna invade me but totally not any time soon haha, we still have a few more years surely” up until the point of invasion. The soviets very much understood that the Nazis had every intention to invade them, you can tell by all the prep work they did and the many members of the politbureau who said as much. Stalin just thought they had more time.
