hmmm okay so we worked through all the actual partitioning work, cgd, zfs, all that, in our disk image (not yet on the actual laptop, this is a throwaway)
that was very fiddly, but it did work, so that's good
now we just need to build the actual ramdisk, without which this setup can't possibly boot
