@janbeta@chaos.social @movq@tilde.zone can confirm, adding fresh solder really helps a ton. As does adding enough flux — add a bit more than you might initially think is necessary as I think we all tend to start too frugally with flux, you'll clean the board with alcohol afterwards anyway!
I don't have a fancy soldering iron by any means, but I can control the temperature on mine, and I don't think I've ever gone over 330 degrees? Adding fresh solder and flux really does make a huge difference.
Except with those impossible components a Playstation 3 has that tend to go bad and need replacing. My gosh are those things criminally difficult to remove 😅.
