Each time someone claims the UK's fiscal problems are caused by the triple-lock on state pensions, or wealth hoarding baby-boomers' are behind UK inequalities,, I see a major programme of political distraction.
The UK's problems are not primarily linked to generational difference(s), they are the result of an ongoing programme of class warfare by the rich, which they are seeking to camouflage as a generational issue... it is not!
The wealthy are the only dangerous minority here!

ApostateEnglishman@mastodon.world 3 days ago @ChrisMayLA6 I also suspect that the corporate social media platforms have been engaged in elaborate psyops to encourage generational warfare - just one more demographic division they can exploit for rage bait, clicks and ad revenue. Conflict creates engagement, and that's where the profit is.
I note you don't see young and old people at each other's throats much here on the fedi, where there's no malicious algorithm to drive it. 🤷🏻♂️

While generations are busy fighting among themselves, the people with the most wealth can just sit back and watch
annehargreaves@ioc.exchange 3 days ago @ChrisMayLA6 I don't disagree about the rich, but at the same time there is clearly generational unfairness which needs to be addressed in eg housing, education fees, youth facilities etc. Of course not all boomers are well off, but as a group have had advantages. To strengthen democracy & cut right-wing potential support improved generational fairness is vital.

There is a group of ultra wealthy people who are able to skew politics in their favour due to their wealth and influence.
There is a generation of people who have a disproportionate share of wealth due to their ability to skew politics in their favour because of weight of numbers.
I see no inherent reason not to address both groups.

Or look at London's property market, where 70% of the of ownership of premium developments is held offshore by non-resident owners, in many cases via shell companies in tax havens. 11% of all property in Westminster.
