As someone from a third world country, it always bothers me off when the infertility crisis comes up and people talk as if it was a unique first world problem.

The third world is not full of noble savages living a quiet and peaceful life. The effects of late stage capitalism are more dire in our societies, we face the same difficulties: lack of jobs, housing problems, declining purchasing power. But without any of the safety nets that people have in the developed world, the only safety net we have is our families and community.

It also makes me sad about what awaits in the future. First they took our resources, now they are starting to take our people while continuing to see us as lesser beings. I have a friend that went to study in Canada, and it really saddens me when she tells me that a lot of her international friends have graduated and are starting to take jobs as cleaning ladies and store clerks because they can't find other jobs. This is the future.

This Plain English episode does a good job explaining why it is a global problem, not a "western" problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F7_qa-XLBg
