taintedwhimsy / Tainted Whimsy - Departure (Second Album)

Written April through June, 2023. Several songs written soon after the initial rush, the resuming of songwriting after three decades. This section was written after a significant trip for me, after the death of someone important in my life. I had several clients I was working with that had a huge impact on me. And I was writing a great deal of things that went against what I had learned in the first album. Not against in a negative way, more of me discovering new things, challenging myself to go beyond how I had just set things up for myself. I used samples, I used strange song structure, I purposefully made a 5/4 song, I played sax and piano almost spontaneously (light editing, only), made a nearly 10-minute song. In addition, the tone is different for many of these songs than those of the first album. I guess that’s what happens in a sophomore attempt, doing something different, bigger, better, whatever. This one also has the most popular song I’ve written, so far, A Different Mode.
