Disk rotation with LVM: almost no downtime
https://blog.narf.ssji.net/2026/09/30/disk-rotation-with-lvm-almost-no-downtime/When adding a bigger disk to the server, another one needs to go out. All this while keeping the data. LVM can be effectively leverage to migrate the data to the new hardware with almost no downtime.
tl;dr:
* extend the Volume Group to the new disk with vgextend(8),
* move the data across Physical Volumes * with pvmove(8),
remove the old disk from the group with vgreduce(8).
