Friendly reminder to report content to your local fedi admins even if it's from a remote instance. While we do federate with other instances we also remote suspend accounts that violate our rules (especially when it comes to transphobia). We can also forward reports to remote instances so that they're aware of it.

deilann@tech.lgbt 1 year ago also err on the side of reporting
if you thought about reporting it's probably worth reporting
if it's not worth reporting it's pretty trivial to deal with (assuming a reason is provided and context) - and even if no action will be taken, it can be useful information if there are issues in the future
obviously i can't speak for every mod team how they feel about this, but typically the issue moderation teams face is folks not reporting stuff that would be very useful to have been reported, rather than too many reports that are unhelpful
deilann@tech.lgbt 1 year ago i know some folks worry about "getting someone in trouble" for something that's not "that big a deal" from historical experience but for the most part...
moderation teams typically aren't in the business of looking at their jobs as punishment but rather community management. the way things can be resolved is highly varied and typically the goal is to handle the issue in a way that addresses it without drastic actions
and this is a lot easier (more for local users rather than remote) when things are reported early, so issues can be handled and users communicated with before the number of issues piles up!
and then finally... there may be context you don't know... what seems like something that might not really merit someone being "punished" might be part of a more concerning larger pattern of behavior mods can't know is continuing/a pattern if it's not reported!
benroyce@mastodon.social@mastodon.social 1 year ago if a remote instance has a problem account it *may* be that the remote instance is adrift: little/ no/ AWOL moderation, or even, in extreme cases, the admin there supports bigotry
to clarify: this is *not* always the case
well run servers can have a dbag sign up and suddenly post ignorance and indecency
the point is that local reporting is more important than remote reporting like amber says
but you still report both: no action from the remote admin is useful info too
dfxluna@transfem.social 1 year ago @puppygirlhornypost2 Is that different than clicking the report button?
