I'm so "ethnically ambiguous" that Indian people in Portugal assume I'm also Indian. a couple of times people from Pakistan asked me if I was Indian, lol.
also a couple of people from Angola asked me if I was Egyptian when I first moved here. they hadn't heard me speaking Portuguese yet, only English, so they associated my first name with my face and got to that conclusion.
in Barcelona a guy simply approached me speaking in Arabic, seemingly asking me a question. I had to say I was sorry but I didn't speak Arabic. he asked me where I was from, in English, and I answered. he was shocked, lol.
on the other hand, people from LatAm always clock me as a sibling, hehehe.
conclusion: racism and xenophobia make no sense and are completely at odds with the material reality of being a human person.
