"Reddit Inc. said it plans to shift to a primarily logged-in user experience as the social forum seeks to deepen engagement and improve the advertising business that continues to drive its solid earnings results. On Thursday, as the company posted third-quarter sales that beat analyst expectations, Chief Executive Officer Steve Huffman announced that Reddit will eventually limit how much of the platform people can access without an account."

katja@toots.matapacos.dog 12 hours ago @joepie91 Not having access to reddit on search results will be godsend. I hope the whole platform sinks. I cannot do a single search without having page after page filled with racist, misogynistic, or otherwise unhelpful drivel.
itsmaya@social.treehouse.systems 12 hours ago @joepie91 lol the early warning was when they tried to monetize API access. Or all the horrific moderation fuckups. So many warnings.
To be clear, I am fully cognizant that "warnings occurred" and "warnings were loud enough to act on" are two different things and this is not a dunk on people for holding out hope that reddit was going to stop sucking, just a dunk on reddit itself.
brib@bribstodon.xyz 12 hours ago @joepie91 Oh cool, Reddit continues to solve my Reddit addiction problem with no need for willpower on my behalf.
But, RIP at how it's going to be so much harder to find solutions to obscure computer issues and the like
hllizi@hespere.de 12 hours ago @joepie91 they should be socialised. Every even remotely sensible society would socialise reddit.
maestrafenix@chaos.social 11 hours ago @joepie91 lmao there goes any useful answer remaining in there

LexYeen@plush.city 10 hours ago @joepie91 I saw this coming the moment they started harassing me to use their proprietary app just to read threads in a mobile browser.
Rycochet@furs.social 10 hours ago @joepie91 They'll probably end the old format entirely in the next two years to force more ads and the app, then find themselves with a huge drop in users. Spez, being Spez, won't bring it back to try and fix it. he'll just bring back Jailbait and The_Donald.
darkwolf@hear-me.social 9 hours ago @joepie91 we're making far too much money. How can we put a stop ro this?
tock@corteximplant.com@corteximplant.com 8 hours ago @joepie91 Steve's "they will log in and pay or they can piss off" strategy marches steadily forward.
