Why are solicitors so expensive? I need to submit a form to the UK Land Registry to get a restriction removed from my property. Completing the form is easy, but it requires signed (and presumably witnessed) consent from a third party. I could do it myself, but I would still need a solicitor or notary to prove my id and that of the third party.

Anyway, a solicitor wants to charge £300 to do something I could do myself (were it not for the id verification) in about ten minutes. Lawyers seem to operate a cartel and have a licence to print money.
