I’m using Markdown notes a lot. I’m feeling a little bit overwhelmed and overstimulated and in result I’ve trouble recalling why I’ve made some decision or what I need to do. Some time ago I’ve decided that preserving traces of my mistakes is important, so started using “strikeout (EDIT: correction)” instead of simply deleting or modifying my notes.
So, now I see what I discovered I’m wrong about and how many times new information made me change my opinion.
And, oh boy. I’m changing my thoughts a lot and I’m full of misinformation/bullshit.
A very small fraction of my opinions comes from me directly, where I’ve personally learned something from my experience, and a huge part of my opinions are results of someone having sound argument on Internet.
And I’m not sure what should I do with it. With current information and stuff-constantly-happening-all-of-the-time firehose, doing full research on every single take is simply impossible. How to function in current world, when every single medium is misinformation soup with a lot of propaganda and volume of new info overwhelms my ability to rationally think about it?
The best I can do is simply not repeat things I haven’t verified and to not act on it, but sometimes things happen which triggers my strong emotional reaction, and staying quiet feels wrong. I’m just human, I have opinions, and sometimes I’m wrong about something. Also, constantly repeating “I don’t know”, “I don’t know”, “I don’t have opinion on it” feels weird.
And also, I think I have quite a few posts like this:
Post 1: “I decided to do something.”
Post 2: “I’ve checked, my decision was wrong because…”
Which is probably tiring for anybody who decided to have my posts on their home timeline…
But, on the other hand: my GoToSocial instance is not an encyclopedia. I’m not serious journalist, I’m just Some Guy™ on social media, it is expected that I’ll post bullshit sometimes IMHO. But I’m open to learning that I’m wrong about something.
