Why is Trump Trying to Kill Freedom of the Press To risk restating the obvious: Donald Trump is trying to control the news media so that he can decide what we see, hear, and read about him and his actions—similar to what the leaders do in North Korea, China, Russia, and innumerable other dictatorships past and present. A cartoon shows Trump holding a press person underwater, drowning him. The press person is wearing a shirt labelled "First Amendment." Trump wants to control what we hear about him so that he can control what we think about him. If we believe that what he is doing is right and good, he and his can stay in power indefinitely. Trump is a fascist trying to take over our country and set himself up as the one and only source of law, “justice,” and power. If you support him, there’s something really wrong with you.
