I told you I was going to blog about it. I've given it away already yesterday, but seeing Foreigner live, I couldn't help but think of Theseus' paradox. Yeah, the one with the ship.

Great post! Foreigner is one of the bands I've never managed to see live... and since all the original members have been replaced, I never will ;)
I wonder the same things you do... once a band loses it's original members, what remains? As long as there's still one of the original guys in the band, there is a continuity and you can confidently say that it's the same band. But when this person retires or dies? It kind of becomes a cover band in my opinion.

but seriously, at least change the name or something. "Foreigner with Luis Maldonado." idk. i guess it doesn't matter. this band has no fixed identity in my mind. i hadn't thought about this band since, well, i'm not sure i've ever thought about this band, until now of course
