i've always associated chess skill with intelligence. that's media conditioning, maybe, as you always see super smart people playing chess in movies and whatnot. my dad and i used to play, and he'd checkmate me in like three or four turns, so not sure what that says about me. note, my dad also supports trickle-down economics and believes we should build the wall. so in hindsight, maybe being good at chess just means you've played a lot of chess.

I didn't learn Chess until I was around 10 when one of my friends showed me in school.
My kids have casually mentioned that they don't know how to play chess, but they've never really shown a great deal of interest either. It's been ages since I've played a game. Maybe I need to pick up a good chess set and see if any of them take a liking to it.

Learning that losing a match is fine, that they can learn something from it and think of ways to improving their tactics will be good for every aspect of their life. 👍
