Backdated. I have a place to live now.
After the biggest anticlimax, I finally have a place to live and I moved in on the weekend. That means everything is finally good, right? Hell no! Getting there is only step one! Remember the list?
Step 2: Get Everything In
Oh yeah, my stuff. It was still in storage. Still there. All good! Now to actually get it there. That process was.... boring. It went almost entirely without any hitches. Nothing broke, nothing got scratched or anything bad happened. Something going right, how quaint!
Step 3: Furniture
One thing I did not bring with me was any furniture. That we would have to get entirely on our own. Good thing there was an IKEA nearby (not sponsored but IKEA please give me money I beg you). As a mid 20 something, I made my pilgrimage and spent too much money on their admittedly high quality furniture. Well, some of it. Some of it was not available at our local location. No problem, right? They have dedicated pickup places and we still had the van.
After spending even more money, we made a schedule to pick it up. That date was scheduled on Friday. Turns out, only after my parents went there in my stead twice, the first time they actually did not have anything ready on the day scheduled and the second was to actually get everything. Whoops, the largest thing was missing! No clue how that happened. So, the next day, for the THIRD TIME, we made it to the pickup point and actually picked everything up. Turns out I mistakenly was given someone else's dresser, so I am not complaining. Guess that is how I got compensated?
If you are crawling out of your rock and somehow found my blog without knowing about IKEA, one of the major things about their furniture to keep prices down is you have to assemble it yourself. Simple enough. It only took us probably 48 hours to assemble everything. I should correct myself. Not 48 hours like 2 days, 48 hours like actually taking that long. I did buy an entire new set of furniture after all. By the end I could say I have the Rosetta Stone of IKEA's vague directions, but I will forget in a week, maybe 2.
Step 4: Food
Another boring event. I went to the supermarket with my parents and we picked out some stuff, with their help. All is good there and I have enough food to last me until 2026.
Step 5: Cleanup
By the end of this process, my apartment looked like a warehouse had blown up. Boxes and garbage were everywhere. I had to clean all of it up, and the only cardboard disposal in the building was in the basement and you had to deal with it by hand. Fun!
Next stop: the finale?
