The National Press Club’s 27th annual members photography exhibit is now live in the Club’s main lobby in downtown Washington, D.C. through the end of September. This year’s exhibit is the largest ever, with 237 images submitted by 55 NPC members, the fifth year in a row with 50 or more participants.
The show is on display in the Club’s main lobby at 529 14th Street NW (at F Street NW) on the 13th floor. An exhibit catalog tells about each contributor and photo, with the images grouped together by photographer on the Flickr photo site.
News photography is the core of the exhibit, with images of happenings from the streets of D.C., other American cities and towns, and throughout the world. Participants also contributed street, sports, wildlife, and landscape images, and — continuing a trend from the past few years — art photography, in some cases mixed with advocacy.
The exhibit’s theme of “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” focused on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which brought in 175 images, nearly three-quarters of the total. As one might expect for an organization of media professionals and communicators, many images displayed visuals of the First Amendment in practice.
This is the 11th annual show organized by TechNewsLit’s CEO Alan Kotok, photography chair at NPC, who also has a set of images on display.
